If faith is the currency that moves God, then prayer is the vehicle that drives our faith. Prayer is such an awesome form of communication with the Most High God and it is yet the least used by some Christians on a daily basis. Prayer is our way of communicating with the God of the Universe, the God of all creation, the majesty on high. To think that God will give us this simple yet effective way to reach Him is just amazing. The elders in scripture, the prophets, the Kings of Israel, the disciples, and even Jesus, communed with God by constant prayer.
But our prayers must be deliberate and intentional. We must approach the Lord with the full belief that He will hear us when we pray. We can’t just wish or hope that He hears us, we have to know that He hears us when we prayer in the name of Jesus. The scriptures tell us in 1 John 5:14-15, “and this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” What John is telling us hear is that we just have confidence when we prayer that God is listening and that He will answer us.
King David wrote several Psalms, but his psalms where mostly songs or prayers of petition to God. He literature called on God to deliver him from his distress, pains, suffering and defeats. He described God in such a vivid way as if he knew God would come down with such fierce urgency to deliver him. In Psalm 3, David prayed when his son Absalom nearly took th eKingdom away from Him. He was faced with pressure of his key allies deserting him and siding with his son. David writes: Psalms 3:1-4 (KJV) “LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill.” It is clear that David looked to God for deliverance from his foes.
